My main beef with the GOP has always been Equal Rights and their silly battle over the word "Marriage".
From the GOP platform Defending Marriage Against an Activist Judiciary
Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.
In Obergefell, five unelected
lawyers robbed 320 million Americans of their legitimate
constitutional authority to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The Court twisted the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment beyond recognition. To echo Scalia, we dissent. We, therefore, support the appointment of justices and judges who respect the constitutional limits on their power and respect the authority of the states to decide such fundamental social questions.
Nobody "lost the right to define" anything - "Marriage" in every single State in the Union is a Civil matter that requires a "Civil license". Anyone can "define" it as they please - but Equal Rights for all Americans is what the GOP says they want in their preamble and then they destroy that by picking and choosing who is more "equal" than others under the Law.
As for the Democratic Platform -- it's a joke full of class warfare, gun grabbing, special interests (like union-union-union) and racism and baskets of "other" sprinkled in liberally (pun intended).
I can't begin to choose which of them is worse - but I go with the DIVISIVENESS of the entire platform.
I’m old enough to remember when identity politics was called civil rights. If you were saying you want the Dems to drop civil rights, you’re basically admitting that you’re a racist/sexist/homophone.
My family are the type that believe homosexuality is a crime worthy of capital punishment. They are of the Steven Anderson camp of Baptists. If I was to come out of the closet, I would be either disowned from the family or harassed to the point I would have to separate myself from my family. At Thanksgiving dinner, my parents, grandparents, and uncle spent probably an hour bashing gays.
I wish what you said was true but unfortunately, the LGBT issue still is a huge deal with many conservatives.
Gays don't need to come out of the closet all that much as long as they don't get a lover to live with and maybe eventually marry.

Please note, the republican party didn't start the fight, nor did it pick the fight over marriage.
it was historically a thing. then democrats decided it should be a different thing.
That aint republicans having an issue. That's democrats having an issue.
What you ought to do is be honest and say you want republicans to roll over on the issue of gay marriage.
(PS I personally believe that the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection clause demands that States provide marriage certificates to any two people who wish to get one.... The State cant make rules that say these two can but those two cant. )
some random thing on the internet that you call an "article" proves the freaking Republican party has a "issue" of "Homophobia"?
I think you've lost your mind.
Okay, so it was just an editorial. But like it or not Oklahoma Republicans have been trying to pass more anti gay bills in recent years than any other Republican dominated state legislature. I gather you never heard of Rep. Sally Kern. But it doesn't matter as much now. She got term limited out.

No, it was gays having an issue. I bet a few of them were Republicans.
