Or do you honestly want to see seniors die because they cant afford medicine and babies born with severe disabilities left to fend for themselves when the family has exhausted their savings?
ERs need to screen out those cases better handled at a walk-in clinic and send them packing. Otis the drunk who stumbles in should be sent off to the drunk tank, and when Chico comes in and cannot speak English or provide any proof of insurance, citizenship or legal residency, kick his butt out also. It's because of that nonsense that when a real patient needing emergency services comes in, he's charged $200 for a Band Aid as part of his treatment. Like I said in another thread, we all know what happens when you feed feral cats.

And yes, as someone who's already being taxed at an exorbitant rate due to our progressive system, I do not want to see any additional taxes which further feed entitlements. The government should not be in the healthcare business.

So you want the tattoo system implemented? You would be tattooed on your forehead to show your medical insurance status in case of an emergency? If the tattoo cant be deciphered (perhaps you were victim of severe burns), you would instantly be denied treatment by the first responders and they would move to someone with the right tattoo on their forehead. Is this system of less government control and more freedom feasible in your opinion?

The government has the constitutional authority to tax. The obvious answer is to just raise taxes and call it a tax and in return create basic healthcare benefits for every American.

Calling it insurance is stupid.

Reductio ad absurdum.

While you Google that, I'll just add that insurance policies come and go. It was a bad law that mandated hospitals must treat everyone, no matter what. Illegals and the poor use them as primary care facilities, which they are not meant to be, delaying and driving up the cost for those who do need such treatment.

Yes because other government programs have been so successful.

Why is it an "obvious answer?" Free market is the obvious answer.

I already covered this a few hours ago, with a free market system, 1/3 of the population would be priced out entirely. That is a crap answer!

Single Payer Healthcare in America, an Obvious Answer...
Even if single payer was passed into law, the GOP would sabotage it to a point where it would not work properly. The political climate in US the biggest problem the nation faces. I can't think of any other issue which prevents us from being what we used to be.

Why?

1/3 of the population is more than 100 million people. That's a HUGE market segment that would be available to anyone looking to grab it via lower price, higher value, easier accessibility, etc. Take down the barriers to competition and the government's monopolistic protection rackets, and competition for even the smaller dollars of that 100+ million people would be fierce.

A free market has absolute minimum barriers to competition possible, thus has more competition generally, and more competition always favors the consumer.
