I was aware that the Russian Federation and Putin had recognized Jerusalem as the Capitol of Israel over 6 months ago. Isn't humorous that Putin is now outraged that President Trump has done the same thing.
The conflict around Israel is only marginally religious, and that arises out of the Jewish claim that Yahweh gave them a deed to the area. There is also a lot of cultural conflict, since the Jewish society is only nominally Middle Eastern, and based primarily on European ideas and lifestyles. The Jews still maintain an apartheid government in Israel because, if they allowed Palestinians and Arabs a voice, the Jews would not be in control any more. Property rights are also a big bone of contention. They started by purchasing land in Israel, but military conflict allowed them to just take what they wanted. The process continues with the ostensibly illegal settlements on the West Bank, though the Israeli military attacks any Palestinian who objects.
Israel is not an apartheid state. The Palestinian Arabs that stayed/remained in place in 1948 and their descendants are full Israeli citizens (just like the Jewish ones). There are Israeli Arabs that are members of the Israeli Parliament, diplomatic corp and IDF.
Again President Trump's declaration really doesn't change the situation in the Middle East as Jerusalem is the de facto capital of Israel, but the USA is still not allowing American citizens born in Jerusalem to list Israel as their country of birth and the US embassy is still not moving for at least a few years to Jerusalem. The only real change is that the USA will no longer be considered a neutral broker in the conflict.

The impulse behind those statements may have been "racist" (although I don't see evidence of that), but there's no question that the Muslim world is, by and large (i.e., apart from moderate modern Muslims) a violent and oppressive one. Their brutality against women, gays, and animals is unmatched (except for Asian countries, when it comes to treatment of animals), and that is not a matter to be brushed under the carpet; it is, in fact, a central tenet of their belief system.

I will note that Russia recognized 'west' Jerusalem as the capital, not the eastern part.
This is the reason Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, which is all the land of ancient Canaan.
"But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his dwelling place shall you seek, and there you shall come:" Deuteronomy 15:2
"the place" is Jerusalem. It is the same place where Abram would have sacrificed his son Isaac, and the same place where God made his covenant with Abraham.
Israel is about 8 million Jews surrounded by about 350 million non-Jews, mostly Muslims. The Muslims have had a lot of practice fighting the US and Israel has nowhere near the military base of the US. The likely scenario is that Israel will start to take civilian casualties, which will start a mass egress of Jews back to their countries of origin. They will hold their own for a while, with substantial US military aid, until they start running out of pilots and other trained military personnel. They will have to shrink their territory some for defensive purposes, and the only import-export path will be by air.
Israel has done great in brief strike wars like the Six Day War. There is no way they could survive a prolonged conflict. They will eventually be overwhelmed and Israel will be no more.
I'm willing to bet some will be glowing for centuries and the sands of their nations turned to glass before that happens.
