Ryan pledges 'entitlement reform' in 2018 | TheHill

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Wednesday said House Republicans will aim to cut spending on Medicare, Medicaid and welfare programs next year as a way to trim the federal deficit.

“We’re going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Ryan said during an interview on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show.

Health-care entitlements such as Medicare and Medicaid “are the big drivers of debt,” Ryan said, “so we spend more time on the health care entitlements, because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking."

Ryan said he’s been speaking privately with President Trump, who is beginning to warm to the idea of slowing the spending growth in entitlements
.

But billionaires and investment banks needed tax cuts, right?

The Republican way.

Get ready to pay more out-of-pocket for your Medicare, with services cut as well. Maybe it'll be converted to a voucher and they'll give you $300/month credit for your Medicare when you turn 65. But the monthly premium will be $550-$750. If you want a comparable premium to today's Medicare benefit , then you've got to dig into your pocket to get the $750 plan even though the voucher is only $300/mo. This means you pay $450 extra from your pocket.

This is necessary because we just gave away the farm...via the GOP "tax cut for billionaires". Now there's not enough money to make ends meet for the country.

First our Medicare which we have been paying into our entire working life. Then they'll come after our Social Security Retirement Income, telling us there's not enough money and we'll have to retire at 70 or take massive cuts in our Social Security Retirement Income if we want to retire before 70.

Rob from the Middle Class to pay for the elite billionaires that the GOP favor.

That's what you get when you vote for Republicans. Anyone who thought Trump cared about the middle class(like he campaigned) was fooled. He cares about the billionaires and large corporations. He only cares about the middle class when he wants to get votes or hear chants at a rally, or to sell MAGA hats.

Who didn't see this coming? In a way, seniors deserve it because they largely support Trump and everyone knows Republicans want to gut Medicare. Ryan has run on it for years, and he just voted for a $1.5 Trillion deficit which gives him the motivation to publicly go after Medicare.

But let's not forget that Trump promised he would not go after Medicare, just like Trump promised everyone would get health coverage, better coverage and the government would pay for it. TOTAL LIES.

Cut taxes for the rich to create a deficit, then use the deficit to justify cuts to social programs. This should surprise no one who is familiar with the current group of creatures that have co-opted the mantle of the party that used to be about fiscal prudence and family values.

I strongly dislike Paul Ryan and his awful ideas for America. How is it that other developed countries provide healthcare for their citizens but Republicans here in the U.S. continue to be against it?

In which countries do the middle class get free government healthcare?

Medicare isn't free government healthcare. We have been paying for Medicare via deductions from our paychecks for our entire working life. We paid plenty for Medicare.

Other countries have learned not to bankrupt themselves spending trillions on a bloated military. The US has plenty of money to take care of Americans but our government chooses to spend it on weapons and war instead.
