Apparently (I didn't know it), the first world leader to get a state dinner under a new president is a big deal status-wise and comes with a huge celebration. The White House says they will hold it early in 2018 but did not say which leader would be so honored. China threw Trump a big one when he went there. You may recall it involved the Forbidden City, military parade and a trip to the Opera in addition to the dinner. The first one to get a state dinner from the Obamas was the head of India (Nov 2009). Under Bush, it was Vicente Fox (Mexico) and under Clinton it was the head of South Korea.

Which world leader do you think should be the recipient of the first Trump state dinner?

I think Israel is a very good guess.

Flippantly? Putin of Russia.

Saudi Arabia or Israel. It would be a hoot if it were Russia, though.

If he wants the Nation to hate him more it would be Russia/Putin.

If he wants to pander to his base it will be Israel/Rivlin.

If he follows his pattern, it will be China.

I never heard of such honor, but I am guessing it will be Duterte, or Putin.

What’s Trump gonna serve...McDonald’s?

It really doesn’t matter who gets invited to the first state dinner in the grand scheme of things. Americans don’t really care. If he chose Chile, no one would be the wiser.
