AWESOME! Way past time to stop importing oil and sending American dollars offshore. Let alone to add to American job growth!
More jobs!
Less financial support for Islamic terrorism!
Reduced fuel prices!
Drill baby, drill!

Given his support for Islamic nations, and disdain for American workers, it is no surprise that Obama not only failed to do this, but actively fought US energy production on public lands.
Trump pal Rick Scott of FL is already howling about this. Coastal states don't want the visual blight and the potential disaster to their tourism economies from offshore drilling. Trump doesn't care about states' wishes. He serves only the swamp creatures.

US oil production went up exponentially under Obama.
Only on private property. It went DOWN on publicly owned land-which is what the president can impact. So...oil production went up IN SPITE OF Obama, not due to him. Now-imagine if we had drilled on public lands? Not stopped the construction of pipelines? If he had not done everything in his power to cripple the industry? Thankfully-like most of his efforts-that failed to work as intended as well.
The areas in question are in the Arctic off the northern coast of Alaska and off the Eastern Seaboard. Of the two, the only one of any real interest to offshore operators would be in the Arctic, and the costs/logistics of operating there in the current oil price environment will render the economics for most prospects questionable.
But by all means...if someone wants to run about wildly with his/her hair on fire over this, have at it, but it hardly seems worth all the trouble.

Exactly. It absolutely makes no business sense to drill offshore at least at current oil prices.
