So this is interesting. Cass Sunstein formerly served in the Obama Administration and is likely a long term friend since he taught law in Chicago. He authors this piece in Bloomberg concerning the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook issue that is in the news.

Cambridge Analytica Behaved Appallingly. Don’t Overreact.

The horrendous actions by Cambridge Analytica, a voter profiling company, and Aleksander Kogan, a Russian-American researcher, raise serious questions about privacy, social media, democracy and fraud.

Amidst the justified furor, one temptation should be firmly resisted: for public and private institutions to lock their data down, blocking researchers and developers from providing the many benefits that it promises – for health, safety, and democracy itself.

In other words, we want to be able to use data for OUR purposes… but not the other side. They already did this in 2012. Sunstein wants to be able to harvest this data again. Facebook will let the left do it… but not the right.

Another troll who is disseminating lies. Do you ever read before posting?

I guess the average conservative lacks reading comprehension. That’s NOT what he said at all. He never spoke of them vs us.

He is just saying that data sharing also has positive outcomes. He didn’t say it should be restricted, stop lying.

No, that is not what he said. He said data can be used for medical, academic and economic research purposes, as long as the users are aware of what they are giving. He is saying that data can be used for productive purposes and be used honestly.

The problem with the Cambridge Analytica is that they obtained data under FALSE pretenses, but in 2012, those obtaining the data got permission from the users. Why is that so difficult to understand? It is like the difference between being given something or stealing it.

They also said they destroyed the data, but they didn't, which makes them even more dishonest.

"...By sharing data with Cambridge Analytica, Kogan violated his agreement with Facebook. According to one report, he ended up providing more than 50 million user profiles to Cambridge Analytica, not for academic research, but to build profiles for partisan political uses..."

I know that's not what he actually said.

I know he doesn't want that data locked up either. He's not fooling me.

You think he's actually going to come right out and say Democrats want access to data like they had in 2012?

Remember when right wing weirdos were freaking out about Cass Sunstein for a few weeks back 2009? Good times.
