Another interesting point in the Reason article (link above) is that high tax states like Illinois are now in a bind since the wealthy in high tax states can no longer deduct state taxes from their federal taxes. This was a provision of the Trump tax legislation.


There is going to be tremendous pressure from voters (especially the rich) to REDUCE state taxes, at the very moment when IL really needs to raise taxes to fund these pensions.


The elimination of the state tax deduction scam is possibly the greatest accomplishment of the Trump admin so far. It is a scam because it allowed states to jack up their taxes, then shift the burden onto the other 49 states.
