This should be the NRA’s Benghazi.

Love it or LEAVE it, million dollar Mitch, and all your craven buds......

'Thoughts and prayers'

'Thoughts and prayers' — and fistfuls of NRA money: Why America can't control guns

Excerpts from above article, written shortly after the Vegas slaughter:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.): "This is a moment for national mourning and for prayer." NRA support by 2016: $1.3 million.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.): “Cindy & I are praying for the victims of the terrible #LasVegasShooting & their families. We appreciate the bravery of all first responders.” NRA spending reached $7.7 million for McCain and against his Senate electoral opponents by 2016, placing him first among all members of Congress........

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa): "My prayers are with all of the victims in Las Vegas and their loved ones affected by this senseless act of violence." NRA financial support since 2014: $3.1 million.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.): "Saddened by the tragic loss of life in #LasVegas. My thoughts are with all of the families affected by this horrific attack." NRA support by 2016: $4.6 million.

Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.): "Praying for all the victims & those impacted by the tragedy." NRA support by 2016: $122,802.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.): "Susan and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to the families of the victims of this horrific and senseless tragedy in Las Vegas." NRA support by 2016: $5.5 million.

But wait, there's more:

Kimmel Writer Calls Out GOP In Blistering Replies To Prayers After Florida Shooting
Source: Huffington Post

Lawmakers sending “thoughts and prayers” in the wake of Wednesday’s deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, are getting slammed for their financial ties to the gun lobby.

Bess Kalb, a writer for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” is responding to each lawmaker tweeting condolences over the murders by listing how much they’ve taken from the National Rifle Association, which has consistently fought any move to tighten gun control laws.

Here are some of those tweets and Kalb’s replies:

Before we outlaw guns, lets first try outlawing murder and see if that works.

Oh Wait it already is, anyone willing to kill and violate that law; the rest are just pointless. Nothing short of killing them is going to stop them.

Obviously, you're not intelligent enough to realize that banning abortion won't bring it to an end anymore than banning guns will end mass shootings.

You've lost me, oh great intelligent one. I'm not sure what my post has to do with abortion?

A simple minded person such as myself, can only hazard a guess that your sarcasm meter needs re-calibrating.

Starting January 2009 the month that Barack Obama was inaugurated president, the House of Representatives was made up of 257 Democrats and 178 Republicans. There is no question that Democrats had total control in the House from 2009-2011

On January 20th, 2009, 57 Senate seats were held by Democrats with 2 Independents (Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman) caucusing with the Democrats, which gave Democrats 59 reliable Democratic votes in the Senate, one short of filibuster-proof “total control”

Yet what did they do on gun control ? Nothing! In fact they did the opposite.

Democrats actually passed gun-rights measures, including the “Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act of 2010” and legislation that would allow guns in national parks and on Amtrak trains.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which endorsed Obama in 2008, gave the president an “F” for his first years in office despite all his campaign promises about gun control

Despite promises, Obama, Dem Congress have been gun-friendly | TheHill

The dems wait for 2012 and they are in the minority and powerless before they do anything but "talk" alot about gun control

Half of republicans favor stricter gun laws and they are inevitable, these school shooting have become pandemic and gun dealers need to held legally and financially responsible for flooding our streets with guns ,
but it wont be because of democrats and Obama

Half of Republicans support new gun laws after Vegas: poll - NY Daily News
Hmmm, this fact kind of kills the old Blame the Republicans argument. Good job newbie, welcome to City-Data.

Condolences to the family of those who were killed and speedy recovery to the wounded, and prayers to those whom appreciate such a thing, including the NRA and non-NRA members.

talk about them all you want, just remember that regardless of what you come up with, it still has to pass constitutional muster. and that is the 800lb gorilla in the room.
