Space travel. I believe the US Govt tossed $20 billion at the Apollo program back in the 1970's, which is the equivalent of $100 billion today. If we were willing to spend so much money on a program like space travel which was totally a future dreamer program (proved by where we are at today with space travel), why wouldn't we spend that kind of money on mental health?

The study of mental health is barely a century old. We are only scratching the surface with our understanding of the human brain which obviously is 100% tied to mental illness. Mental instability is directly correlated to so many things, like gun control for instance. Lately it seems perpetrators are automatically labelled mentally ill (how could a sane person do such a heinous act?). An injection of major funding into the field of mental health could go a long way in accelerating our understanding of the "why's" to things like mass shootings (maybe). Right now the focus still seems to be on the gun itself, something that is wielded by the humans labeled mentally ill.

There should be a NASA equivalent in government, and it should be treated like NASA was in the 60's/70's. Mental illness is serious stuff, and it should be treated as such.
