I remember when I visited my sister back in China a few years ago. She had three sons and one of them was turning 3. He had a birthday party and I noticed all of the Chinese women would come in and grab his balls and say "nice boy".
My sister was uncomfortable and had to tell them that this was not appropriate behavior, but apparently it is common in China. Same with people going up to people and touching their breasts or butt even to teen years.
This is probably very difficult behavior to understand but it happens in much of the world. Europe is more reserved than the rest of the world and America even moreso.
The Puritans came over to establish a religiously pure colony in America where sexuality was forbidden. The goal of sex was procreation and nothing else.
The real reason the Salem witch trials occurred was because girls at the time were very restricted. There was not a whole lot to do in early New England, especially in the harsh winters. Story-telling was common and sometimes ranged from fortune telling to the occult. It was mainly believed that the girls were "straying" from the religious foundation and thus tighter restrictions had to be put into place.
The main storytellers were arrested and trumped up on witchcraft charges. Those charges were baseless but mass hysteria was involved and witches were burned at the stake without even a trial or just a bare semblance of a trial. In many cases, they got the "witches" to plead guilty in exchange for not going after her daughters. So she was a sacrificial lamb of sorts.
Fast forward ... several hundred years.
The Victorian era occurred. By then, the culture was able to be able to brainwash a big portion of the society. For women the phrase was "Lie back and think of England" during sex. Women were forbidden having pleasure and focus was on breeding nothing else.
For men, an increasing problem was that many men were masturbating and they had to put an end to it. Enter Mr. Kellogg. The founder of Corn Flakes was actually a sadistic mutilator. He personally set out to stop masturbation by cauterizing the ***** of young girls and circumcising young boys without anesthetics. The mutilation of girls didn't stick but it did of young boys because he claimed it would "prevent masturbation." It's true that circumcision makes masturbation more difficult, but it doesn't prevent it.
Fast forward a few world wars and the Puritan society had other concerns. It was greatly disturbed by the "free love" era and greatly relieved when AIDS made its way into society in the 1980's. By then it thought it had finally "conquered" the lust in America.
However, it never thought about the internet. With growing knowledge many Americans stopped circumcising their babies. Women found out that they could have pleasure. In addition, there was no need for a nuclear family anymore. The Victorian society had to think of something.
At our hearts, we are simply of the same DNA as our founders. We view sex as dirty and want to eliminate it. So when a movement comes like metoo, we all jump on it just like the Salem Witch Trials. It is our destiny.
In this case, the Victorian society had to frame it in a way that will make both males and females not want to engage in sexual activities. The first postulate presented is that any form of touch that is not asked for is abuse. This is irrelevant of whether the person that received the touching actually liked it or not. The second postulate is that the person who touched is automatic guilty. This postulate provides an easy mechanism for doing an adhoc "witch trial" on men. The third postulate is that there is no statue of limitation and that women can go back to a time period 50 years ago and claim something when the time period of what was acceptable then was different.
What this will serve to do is: 1. Prevent males from making any moves, 2. Make women view men as offenders and to be on guard and thus never really be "ready" for sex.
We are back in the 1620's folks, it's just a gerrymandered version of it.
Growing up in a French based society (Louisiana) and having deep francophone roots vs. a British based one, I can see the differences. For instance at Mardi Gras a woman flashes and has hands all over her body. She doesn't report to metoo because she doesn't feel violated, in many cases she feels empowered. Feeling violated is a social construct that was handed down to us by our Victorian heirs and ultimately from that group of Puritans in 1620.
There's an obvious, simple solution. Build a time machine, go back to the 1600s, and build a wall to prevent the Puritans from immigrating to America.
Puritans are all criminals - that's why Great Britain wanted to get rid of them. Their children and descendants are all criminals too. The puritans have stolen billions of dollars from American taxpayers by forcing us to educate their children all these centuries. They also forced us to get into an expensive war with Great Britain that we're still recovering from. Plus they dress and talk funny.
Build the Puritan wall and immediately deport all Puritans and their anchor descendants.
So being groped by a bunch of drunks is empowering. Yoww.
Feeling violated when some creep is grabbing at you is the most natural thing in the world. Allowing it is the social construct, in favor of men.
Knee jerk reactions without critical thinking is why the Salem witch trials lasted so long.
Critical thinking is clearly needed in America.
Women will voluntarily show their **** at Mardi Gras. Yes it is empowering. Your puritanical upbringing doesn't allow you to see it that way. Go to a nude beach sometime or try to get away from "sex is bad" and "nudity is bad" for a bit.
The very idea that the body should be completely hidden and never seen or touched is a very Victorian or Puritanical ideal. Go live in another country in South America, Africa, or Southeast Asia for a bit and come back and then let's have a discussion.
I believe that unabashed public nudity is liberating more than empowering.
Empowerment, to me, is resisting the urge and/or the coaxing from others to flash your goodies in public.
