Some are and some aren't. That's why the system of going before a judge to decide which teen is responsible enough to get emancipated or not makes total sense. It's not a one-size-fits all issue.

They are already able to emancipate themselves as teenagers - at 18 years old.

That is a pretty good age for this emancipation to take place. In fact, most teenagers are still not mature enough to handle the responsibilities of being emancipated at 18 years old, but at some stage the only way you are going to learn is by doing it.

Emancipation at 18 is good, if either the parents or the child desire to claim the right of emancipation at that time, whether it be for good reason, bad reason, or no reason.

Sure, as long as the kid is then an adult and can vote and own property and take care of themselves and the parent is fully absolved of responsibility.

It’s a ridiculous idea that teenagers should be able to emancipate themselves. They are going to go from being dependent on their families to being dependent on taxpayers.
True.

The parents would be fully absolved of responsibility and the kid would be able to own property.

That isn't the way legal emancipation for 16 and 17 year-olds works in Oregon. Here, if a court approves the emancipation, the parents are still responsible for funding the living and educational expenses of their offspring. Boy, wouldn't I have jumped at the opportunity to do that, when I was 16. I'm sure my whole life would have been different and better, if I could have lived separately and was able to go to a different, local school district.

Oh but these immature 18 year olds can go to war for our country. Maybe we should stop sending these "immature kids" to war and instead send the older generation to fight for us.

That doesn't sound like emancipation at all. If emancipation doesn't mean that nobody else is reponsible for any of your expenses, what does it mean?

Declaration of emancipation by Court order. No need to get parental permission. However you have to meet criteria to convince the court. In hear it is difficult.

Being old enough to drive is a bit of a misnomer since there are often restrictions on when kids can drive, where they can drive and with whom they may drive.

Why?

Because they aren't mature or experienced enough to make decisions that could impact themselves or others.

Example: Piling 8 kids in a car to go cruising, messing around in the car and getting in a terrible accident.

You may be old enough to drive by yourself but you don't have the experience needed not to get distracted.

Sorry. But its true. Doesn't mean I think kids are stupid. Quite the opposite. But facts are facts.
