City computers in Atlanta are being held hostage by a ransomware attack. For almost a week city employees can not access their computers. Citizens can not pay their municipal bills. Police are back to hand writing their reports and tickets.
Hackers are demanding $51,000.00 in Bitcoin in exchange for the city to regain access to their computers. However,

More than six days after a ransomware attack shut down the city of Atlanta's online systems, officials here are still struggling to keep the government running without many of their digital processes and services.
"This is much bigger than a ransomware attack, this really is an attack on our government," Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told a news conference. "We are dealing with a (cyber) hostage situation."
This may be happening in Atlanta but, every city and every computer is subject to the same type of attack.
Hackers could bring this country to it's knees.
All this on line commerce is great but the security has not caught up. Maybe it’s time to put financial transactions back to paper and cash. People need jobs, maybe it’s time to start filing paper and locking it up in file cabinets again.
