At this point, it doesn't matter what he says or does. Trump is an idea, a symbol, more than he is a man or politician. Especially to those who still support him.
He also talked about building a "see through wall." I'm pretty sure he is talking about adding on to the existing border wall that already runs along the length of the California border with Mexico, and into parts of Arizona.
In other words, he is talking about filling in the gaps of the existing wall/fence built by Bill Clinton in the 1990s and added on to by George Bush as if this is "his" wall that he talked about during the campaign.
This is NOT the wall he was been talking about. None of the prototypes he had built here in San Diego are "see through." But he is going to spin it as if it is "his wall" for those who have no idea that Bill Clinton and George Bush already built much of it.
Just to be clear: I have no problems with extending the existing fence. I have been saying all along that doing so is a smarter and most cost effective plan than building an entirely new wall. As someone who lives within walking distance of that fence, I know that when the fence was built in the 1990s, it reduced foot traffic through my property.
But, if the President starts claiming credit for building the hundreds of miles of "see through wall" that already existed before he took office, I will call him out on it.
Also, was it just me, or was the audience for the speech today rather...subdued...compared to other speeches? When the camera panned out, I noticed a lot of the workers in the background weren't clapping and looked kind of bored. Maybe it was just the subject matter?
Or John Quincy Adams, for that matter: he went skinny-dipping in the Potomac River ever morning, winter, spring, summer and fall, at 5:00 a.m. when he was president. Now, I wouldn't recommend that for Trump...(oh, my eyes!)...but I believe the White House still has a very nice indoor pool. Heated, too.
Rather than the above, the last sentence in the post you were replying to prompted me to think of Trump riding in a golf cart while all the other assembled world leaders were taking a short walk .
Energetic? Trump had to ride in a golf cart when the other world leaders walked about half a block.
Good grief.
I'm posting as I read through the thread. My previous post was a response to a post made before your post above and, as such, my previous post honestly was composed before reading your post above .
Has anybody ever counted how many times Trump says “I” in one of his speeches/rallies?
I wonder if he has given Obama a run for his money?
Obama referred to himself 45 times during his speech at the memorial to the slain Dallas police officers, and referred to himself 75 times during his last remarks in January of 2017:
