If its as you say, and no reason for me to think it isn't, then sounds like a bit of a false claim, he was tried by the media. A story is a story and media reports on them. The word of an ex spouse is not enough on its own to prevent getting a clearance especially if there is proof to dispute it.
It could be cause for delay though.
Just pull up and incognito tab on chrome or whatever and you can see it.
According to that report his job did not require a security clearance.

The clearances don't work like a trial, buddy; if something is suspected of having any potential for extortion or blackmail, that's all that's needed to block a clearance. Spousal abuse is one of the most common reasons why such clearances are blocked.

If you have a history of bad credit and your ex tells the background investigator you’re a louse who overspends and makes poor financial decisions, that can absolutely have a negative effect.
