If they were left to take care of their own problems, the people would only see their governments as their enemies...they would probably move towards some kind of democracy...maybe not our kind, but something better than what they're getting. One thing for sure is, they all want Israel wiped off the map.
Is “secular leader in the Middle East” code for “tinpot despot propped up by foreign powers?” Because if there’s one thing Islamists, secularists, and those in between in the Middle East generally agree upon, it’s that foreign powers playing geopolitical chess with the people of the region via proxy wars and cold-blooded realpolitik should cut it out ASAP and give the people of these countries the right to control their political destinies.
I would disagree because the people want the worst aspects of radical Islam. We should do the exact opposite of what we have been doing. We need to stay out of the Middle East but if we insist on interfering we should be on the side of secularism not jihadism.

Nonsense. You guys need to stop propagating such falsehoods. This notion that Middle Easterners are obsessed with Israel is bunk. The overwhelming majority of Arabs, Persians and Turks go about their daily lives without one iota of thought about Israel. They don’t give a damn about Israel one way or another. To cast aspersions on them as people that want nothing more in life than to destroy Israel is calumny of the worst kind.
I would like it if we did not go on "adventures in democracy" over there. One of the reasons we should be pursuing eventual fossil fuel obsolescence, because it decreases the political value of the area. Less political value, less turmoil - not just from us but from everyone.

But that means less money for the military and the defense industry. We can’t have that.

LOL, no we can't. And I'm glad you mentioned "industry" - the actual troops are stretched thin, and don't get me started on the veterans who come home...
"Support our troops", my rear end! Talk about an empty, insulting bumper sticker!
