Congressmen sleeping in offices cry poverty. Low wage workers needed.

A salary of $174,000 a year isn't enough. It's a poverty wage.

Someone please let me join in being impoverished. We need to elect some low wage workers.

I wonder how people live on the average wage which appear to be much less.

I see no reason why they can't share in a dorm situation since they are there only 4 nights a week.

Or perhaps they could take a page out of EPAs head and rent from a lobbyist for 50 bucks a night. ;-]

I've always said that reps and Senators are overpaid. That's one thing I do like about AZ politics, is that voters rather than the state reps and sens themselves get to vote whether they get a raise or not, and we always vote no, so our state reps and sens still get paid just $24k/year

Well, you must remember that a member of Congress has to maintain 2 residences- one in his or her home district and the other in Washington. Members of Congress from the DC area have it made.

Also, DC is indeed pricey.

I recall that when Chuck Schumer was a Congressman before being elected to the Senate, he shared an apartment with a bunch of other Congressmen.

Might be time to build them a dormitory.

If they paid $2,000 a month for an apartment in DC which some do that's $26,000 a year.
Deduct that from their pay and they are still in a nice pay range around $148,000 a year.
That doesn't sound like poverty IMO.

Maybe they should take notes from their staffers who they pay significantly less and live with roommates on a bus line.

I think they are all paid too much for the work we get out of them. Take their insurance and gym perks away and let them see how the other half lives. They always want more and more money. Tough.

If the MOC wanted a dormitory, Congress would have created a dorm. JMO, many MOC are a little weird and I just wouldn't want to be associated with them outside of Congress.
