Eighteen-year-old Keziah Ginger Daum wanted a unique prom dress, so she visited a vintage shop in downtown Salt Lake City. The dress she chose was a qipao, a traditional Chinese dress that has become a cultural symbol of Chinese female empowerment.
In the week since Daum posted her prom photos on Twitter, her outfit has come to symbolize a debate over cultural appropriation. Many online have called her out for ignoring the history of the qipao and turning her prom into just another instance of white people wearing offensive things.
One way to stay on the right side of cultural appropriation: education. Daum may not have understood the significance of the qipao, and Minaj may not have done the research into why her fans shouldn’t be reposting videos of themselves with chopsticks in their hair. But the ignorance that comes from privilege isn’t an excuse. Before you buy that Asian-inspired outfit, we recommend Googling it.
A better way to stay on the right side of cultural appropriation: ridicule. Every person who claims it's an issue needs to be laughed at, every time they bring it up.
From the picture I saw of her in that dress, the only problem might be that it's slit right up to the top of her legs and her rather large arse seems to pull it open. Other than that, who cares? It's a beautiful dress, not what most girls would wear to a prom, but apparently she wanted to be different. Nothing wrong with that.

I clicked on Katana and got her twitter feed - this was one of the posters upset with this girl wearing the dress. Lots of selfies with suggestive poses and no much in the way of clothes and she has a problem with the dress? Does she have a problem with whites eating Chinese or Thai food?
The dress looks beautiful on her and she probably saved herself a lot of money she could use for college. Kudos for her thinking outside the box!
He best response to whoever criticized her dress would be to say " Oh, don't be an idiot."
