That's not thrill killing.

Garden vermin.

That's nature. Man grows carrot. Groundhog wants to eat carrot. Man must kill groundhog to stop carrot from being consumed.

You think gardeners/farmers don't do every trick in the book to discourage animals from raiding their food supply before using deadly force? It's in their best interest to do so. Not unless they hire an armed guard to stay up all night to watch over the garden.

I understand he was giving the internationally recognized gesture of “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”.

Sad little man just wanted to feel a bit more powerful, so shot a living thing for no reason.
He just wanted to shoot something, instead of a paper target.
It happens....

The cops here have a push broom and a big snow shovel in their trunk or back of the SUV, to clean up after a car wreck.

When I first read the threat title, I pictured a groundhog acting shady or suspicious!

I don't know when this video was taken, but last year Maryland had an outbreak of rabies (which is far less common than people believe), including a groundhog at The Maryland Zoo. The officer was correct to shoot this animal if there was even the possibility of it having rabies. There was no way for him to contain the animal until Animal Control showed up, and rabies is not something to take chances with. Would you rather the groundhog got away and infected people before it died a slow, slobbering death?
But was that the reasoning? It seems to me he shot it simply because it approached him. Many PO will shoot at anything that approaches them.
