Obviously this relates to the political system outside of the US, but I found this interesting because if the results are good, I'm sure we will see something similar here in the US for futur elections.

I feel like this is better than doing nothing, but wonder if it will really solve the problem. Even if it works in Ireland, will it work here? Will be interesting to monitor and see.

Facebook is becoming the face of world censorship. They will decide what is hate speech or any speech that will be allowed.
When FB says sit down and shut up what will you do ?

Facebook is a private company and can do whatever they'd want, but don't call yourself a website that is more than willing to allow everyone to exchange range of ideas on a platform that advocates diversity. But not diversity of thought? Education of today is the politics of tomorrow and politically indoctrinating others is the base of those who control the masses underneath them. Yet I was raised in an environment where being exposed to ideas that may not come to terms to your liking was actually seen as a good thing because it helps you grow. I don't see this being a good thing at all.

Personally I mostly ignore FB, but when I do look I'm amazed at the stupidity of some people I know. The things they share, say, and participate in are crazy sometimes. FB is basically a window into a world of stupidity and gullible people. My general philosophy is to not censor anything and let people figure it out on their own, but their stupidity reminds me of what a disaster that can be.

But the issue is who decides what's hate speech and what isn't. It's a very broad term and subjective in nature. When they say they want it to be safe, I hope to God they mean safe from those do plan on inflicting harm and violence towards others. I've heard the argument that many who advocate this plan on making it safe from those who see the abortion debate as "triggering" so they came to the conclusion that they'd avoid it all together. Makes me cringe that this is considered forward thinking.

Well the point of me posting this as I said is that if they are doing it there, you can probably assume its on its way here for our next election, so yeah it probably is your business.

No, if it comes here then it becomes my business depending on what they do. Being privately owned means Facebook can do whatever they please and it's not my business. If the government demands it, then it's my business. Until then, it is not.

So you are saying that what FaceBook does that may or may not influence their 214M US based users is of no interest to you? Thats a bit odd.
