Somewhat parallel to the OP's idea, I would love to make it MANDATORY that anybody who runs for President, Vice President, Senate, or Representative reveal all their tax records.

Unworkable. There would still have to be a system in place that decides who gets funding and who doesn't. It would most likely consist of gathering signatures that a regular person would still have to beg for help to get done.

Besides, I have no desire to pay taxes to fund another group of people's travels. The solution is simple. If a politician doesn't do what they told you they would, quit voting for them. People want a system that they think will do for them what they refuse to do themselves.

"Yes, my politician signed legislation I despise, I still have to vote for him because I do not want the other guy to win either. If he only hadn't taken their money this wouldn't happen".

Yes it would. There are still the promises of $250,000 speeches.

I believe in publicly funded elections once the ordinary people become viable by being elected to local public office and working their way up with public records of their votes and views. I wish there was a way to know more about our candidates. These so-called “outsiders” get in with no political record and blow everything up. The thought of free speech equals money gives me the chills.
We need to have a good look at citizens united and the farce that was the 2016 election cycle.

So they need to acquire their IOU's before hitting the national stage? Obama had no public record that showed he would be the corporatist war monger that he was.

At least he had electoral experience, a voting record and provided his tax records!

Only have to look at his donors to know that he would do what he did in office. Lofty rhetoric on the campaign trail means nothing. Just like Trump has totally caved to big pharma, insurance, Wall Street and the military industrial complex once in office.

And it meant nothing. He's rolling in the cash now.
