Donald Trump has hailed a "very big day for free and fair trade" after reaching a deal to avert a full-blown trade war with the EU.

In a press conference with Jean-Claude Juncker and POTUS seemed to be extreamly positive about the results of their negotiations today.

President Donald Trump says the United States and the European Union have agreed to work toward "zero tariffs" and "zero subsidies" on non-automobile goods.

For some reason, I don't believe a word that Trump says, and will wait to hear the facts from the Europeans.

I read that the meeting was about auto tariffs with the EU poised to impose 20B in tariffs if the USA went ahead with the auto tariff. Why is Trump talking about soybeans?

http://www.euronews.com/2018/07/25/t...ndly-termsThey have agreed to works toward a deal.

So we are starting the negotiations of a deal.

The European Commission President added the US would hold off on further tariffs while trade negotiations were taking place.

Zero tariffs, zero subsidies was the goal all along so this is excellent news. Now we can shift even more focus towards China perhaps with the help of the EU nations. Mexico sounds like it is progressing positively. Good developments on the trade front, progress isn’t made overnight and takes time.

The feeble republicans should take note and learn how it’s done. Many (Flake & Corker) are irrelevant and will be gone next year anyway

Sounds like the same position the left took on No. Korea and Russia. The leaders they have the most faith in because its the ideology they agree on. Socialism and Communism.

Gee, what happened to Mr Negotiator ? I thought he had the ability to make people fall to their knees and do whatever he wanted ? So , now he has had to backpedal once again ?

The news is that they are negotiating and that they have the same goals -- zero tariffs -- but guess what -- nothing signed, nothing agreed -- NO DEAL YET.

It's a good start? It's always good to start with negotiations. They could have done that in the first place.

I agree, time after time we find Trump just makes up what sounds best to him and then later we find that the real story is completely different.

Trump went to talk to the NK dictator and declared a massive win, only for us to find out a few days later it was all 100% fake and just a big fancy photo OP for Kim and Donnie...

I will wait to hear what EU reps say too...

Worth noting that ending Tariffs and not getting a big pay off means the whole thing was worse than a waste of time because Trump burnt decades of goodwill just to get back to zero...

so lets see what the US actually GAINS... But most likely Trump just caved and got nothing at all .
