its no longer actor and actress..they are all actors now

its no longer policeman, fireman...now its fire person

it no longer garbage/trash collector..... now its a solid waste engineer

I cant even keep up with it....

you cant say oriental anymore... I guess I cant travel to the orient anymore either then

whats next
Oriental, when referring to a person, is actually quite rude. It refers to objects and locations, not to living beings.

The rest? It is really up to the industry or individual. What's so horrific about them being called flight attendants now?

Nothing.

I think I covered that quite explicitly.

Generally speaking, women want to be treated as equals to their male counterparts. Gender neutrality in titles is one part of accomplishing that. For example, you wouldn't refer to a "black-steward" and a "white-steward", would you?

I haven't heard of anyone getting arrested or fired because they said "stewardess". It's just that as a society we have moved toward the gender-neutral titles. I suppose there is a fair amount of peer pressure to do so. But it's really a pretty trivial thing. The subject of this thread is, why are you sooo irritated that actresses and stewardesses are now called actors and stewards?

Now, using "Asian" instead of "oriental" might be the same situation as the above. What I don't know is, do Asian people actually object to the term "oriental"?

That may be how it started out....

But the Left couldn't be happy with leaving it at that.

They had to morph it into identity politics to use as a political weapon.

To a Left, political correctness is practically a religion in itself.

And that's what the backlash is all about....
Why take the opinions of people on the fringe and decide everyone thinks like that?

I mean, why does there need to be a backlash to just being kind?

So, if you are busy being kind and the worst thing someone can get you on is referring to a person as an actress instead of an actor?

That person will look like a jerk for harassing you over it, especially if you simply say "oh, pardon me... I stand corrected" and move along.

its the same with the transsexual people... its a neurological disorder to have a genetically female human THINK they are a male

for example: Chasity Bono.. Sonny and Cher's daughter.... she may THINK she FEELS like a male...she may have surgeries to emplace a penis on her, and call herself Chaz... but she will never be able to sire a child with another woman...and she will ALWAYS BE y-chrome

btw... since Chasity was gay...and Chaz thinks he is male, but still is attracted to females... is he no longer gay.... is the transsexual surgery the '''cure''' for gayness??

certainly not PC views/questions..... but they certainly are valid views/questions
I'm not sure what it has to do with being PC. Being PC is more about just calling Chaz "he" and not mocking Chaz by refusing to call Chaz "he."

You are not Chaz, so why do you care if Chaz is trans or not?

That's pretty much how I approach such matters and it works quite well.

Sidebar: Plenty of XYs who identify as male also cannot sire children. Are they less male?

Depends on which Asian person you ask.

So, it's safer not to use Oriental when speaking of people. When speaking of furniture? Totally fine.
