On February 28, 2017 Senator Bernie Sanders introduced the Affordable and Safe Prescription Drug Importation Act. According to the July issue of Consumer Reports it would allow Americans to fill prescriptions from pharmacies in Canada. According to Dr. Alfred Padilla of North Castle NY, prescriptions from licensed U.S. physicians can be filled from several Canadian online pharmacies. Dr. Padilla estimates that Americans can buy their prescription drugs at 40% or less than their U.S. cost. A companion bill of the same name was introduced in the House on February 28, 2017.
This was found on page 6 of the July 2018 issue of Consumer Reports. Neither the House bill or the Senate version of the bill have been moved beyond the introduction stage since Feb of 2017. Tabling a bill in committee is what politicians do when they want to bury a bill.

The Republicans have proven once again that they have no interest of giving the middle or lower classes in America a break.
And this is surprising to anyone? But Trump was going to take care of this too...

Trump promises to lower drug prices, but his blueprint is less sweeping than his campaign rhetoric
After repeatedly promising to rein in skyrocketing prescription drug prices, President Trump Friday released a multipronged "blueprint" he said would deliver relief to patients "very soon."
But the president stopped well short of backing any major new effort to use the federal government's power to negotiate lower prices for patients, a strategy he endorsed as a candidate and one broadly used by most industrialized nations.
Cory Booker’s explanation for voting against cheap prescription drugs doesn’t track.Booker has deservedly taken a lot of heat for voting against an amendment sponsored by Senators Amy Klobuchar and Bernie Sanders that would have created a reserve fund to allow Americans to buy cheap prescription drugs from Canada. Booker was far from alone—12 other Democrats, including Mark Warner and Patty Murray, voted against the bill—but Booker has received the bulk of the attention, partly because of his profile (dude is definitely running in 2020) and partly because Booker often casts himself as a progressive.
The amendment specifically stated that it would “establish a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to lower prescription drug prices for Americans by importing drugs from Canada.”
A fund? WTF for? How about just allowing individuals to use the free market and buy from other countries?

It's never going to be a free market until the government stops tying to regulate drug consumption. As usual, everything the government touches turns to extremely expensive garbage.

The government in Canada doesn't regulate their market? Seems to be much cheaper there still.

Or perhaps they're just proving that in Washington, the public interest is no match for powerful ($$$) lobbies?
