Honestly take Trump out of the equation, and I think this is the way it SHOULD be done. I think its slimy that they usually get done on the way out of office or into long holiday breaks.

What do you expect from a megalomaniac?
DT likes seeing his name attached to things. Congress has not given him tons of new laws to sign so he's issuing EOs and yes, granting pardons to cement a vast C.V. that will be on record.
Then there is also the "eff you and your effing people" aspect of DT. His pardons are going outside the normal channels/process to prove *HE* is running this country. The WH is now firmly another extension of Trump Inc., and His Orangeness is not POTUS, but more like CEO.
Finally as with all megalomaniacs DT has a deep desire to be stroked and loved. Having all these people kiss his ring (or behind) directly in seeking this and that pardon again falls into how the man has run his life and businesses pretty much since becoming an adult.
Instead of he usual process of going through attorneys, justice department or whatever; people are now lining up to speak with Big Ginger Headed Poppa himself. Thus *he* receives all or a lion's share of credit, and yes, more photo ops.
Unfortunately absent a constitutional amendment there is little anyone can do about this situation, and DT knows it; which is why he's doing what he is doing.

Heres the problem I have with the pardons. They are not always based on if the person was innocent, or unfairly treated. Arpaio's was done even before sentencing. This is not about righting wrongs, its about abuse of power. Sure some seem valid and correct, but many are about political favors, and as a way to push at other people.
Its banana republic style.
And some past presidents have truly abused it as well in their last few days in office.
What he should do is use the pardon power to pardon every florist, baker, photographer, bed and breakfaster, etc that the Gaystapo persecuted in the mess left from Oberfeld. That's what the pardon power was created for, to help protect people should part of the government go rouge, as the judiciary clearly has.

Trump promised to drain the swamp, instead he is expanding it and releasing the few swamp creatures that were captured back into the wild... Trump will go down in history as the first criminal POTUS of the 21 century...

You really have no idea how the pardon power works or its limits do you? and gaystapo? Really? It can pardon Federal crimes only, not lawsuits.

When his pardon line-up was first being discussed, Ana Navarro described him as like one of those kids in the movies who just discovered he has a superpower. Now that he knows he has it, he's gonna use it everywhere. Oy gevalt!

It's a Trump "look at me, see what I can do, the great and powerful Oz" kind of thing. Ethical consideration be damned. Just do it!
If there wasn't even vetting of his own staff that enters and exits via the WH revolving door, with the swampy vested all around him still, do you think he's going to give more careful thought to pardons?
"You get a pardon! You get a pardon! You get a pardon!" After the new wears off, he can turn it into another Trump money-making endeavor.
