California's in as much trouble as any other state in this country. That's a heap of trouble.
I would be all for California's secession and rejection of Washington's political system. It's a land of beauty and I have dear friends there. It pains me to see California caught up in this national tailspin.
I'd be happy just to see Northern and Southern CA separated into two states. The South can have Sacramento!
Actually California normally takes out short term loans every year at this time. The only difference is that because of the national banking situation, The Governator is looking to the Federal government for short term cash. The sky is not falling. It's just business as usual.
This is a totally ridiclous statement. California is a great place. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Just how bad is California's economy? Some politicians are calling for the federal government to launch what sounds a lot like a Marshall Plan for the state.
A trio of Democratic legislative leaders asked Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today to rescue California from economic stagnation by pressuring Congress for more aid to the state.
In a letter to the governor, Don Perata and Darrell Steinberg (Senate president pro tem and pro tem-elect, respectively) joined Assembly Speaker Karen Bass to argue that any economic stimulus plan passed in Washington must have some specific medicine for California's particularly sick economy.
"Such aid to states is not unprecedented and was a key component of the economic stimulus packages enacted by Congress and approved by the President following the 9/11 attacks," the letter says.
"Without state and federal intervention, many more families will be forced to rely on public assistance, putting increased pressure on a shrinking tax base. These trends pose a serious threat to California's economic future," the trio wrote, asking for focused investment in California and other distressed states.
OK let's make one thing crystal clear. Don Perata is a showman, a rabble rouser, and he'll do just about anything for minute in the spotlight. He's very much an alarmist and quite honestly a bit of a nut case. I pity anyone naive enough to take that guy seriously.
What happened to California the last 3-5 years, the state appears to be in a decline in every aspect, bleak future, not much hope for natives. Hopeless!!
Last 3-5yrs? You mustn't have heard the story of Gray Davis. Frank Luntz, the man who authored the over-throw of the late-90's CA governor, tells the story in "Words that Work", of how awful CA had become. It was so awful because of five years of socialistic expansion, Gray Davis was, IIRC, the first governor in CA history to be recalled.
I would venture to say that CA's current problem is that the citizens tacked all the blame for the 90's failure on Davis rather than socialism. Rather than ousting all the socialists, they used Davis as a scapegoat and now the state is still going down... just slower than it was.
(FWIW: Luntz, also the author of the Republican's "Contract with America" tells the story of how the Pubes went from energized in '94 to the failure of the 21st century. Interesting reading if you're into that sort of thing... you know... getting smarter.)
California continues on a path of segregation. The Haves contiue to control the coastal areas as well as the major job centers, while the Have Nots are pushed out to the ghettos, inland valleys, and desert communities. White flight is still taking place, but this time, instead of the whites moving from the city centers to the burbs, they are now moving out of state to places like idaho, utah, and colorado. The growing latin population easily fills in these voids. It is easy to complain about this demographic shift when you're not from a state bordering mexico. However, its a fact of life throughout the southwest and there are plenty of states that don't border mexico for people to live in if they care to avoid the issues facing CA.
Regadless of your views on this demographic shift, I think most people would still agree that CA has some of the most amazing geography in the world. From yosemite to the golden gate bridge, lake tahoe, big sur, wine country, the beaches of socal, the giant redwood trees, and numerous other amazing places, CA is still overall a beautiful state.
yep.. the white flight certainly has come to idaho thats for sure...
but most of them move here and fall in love with the place... atleast until it snows... lol
