I think saluting the general of a brutal regime is way worse then a slight bow. But I'm not so blindly loyal to any party. You folks that have pledged allegiance to your party get so caught up in ridiculous things and then allow the politicians to completely ignore or screw up the big things.
I don't see it as an issue really. It was meant as a gesture of respect at that moment in time.
While technically civilians are not supposed to salute (with the exception of veterans), as Commander in Chief and ultimately the number one guy in charge of all military, I think the President of the US should be allowed to salute as he sees fit.
Remember all the Trump supporters (and Trump) screaming about Obama bowing? What are their thoughts about Trump saluting a North Korean general the day after minimizing Kim's history of murder?

Trump tried to shake the general's hand first, but the general was confused and saluted instead. In that sort of high pressure, high stakes situation, there's no time to reflect on what 'should' have been done.
Trump acted appropriately under the circumstances.

No, Obama slightly bowed to a Japanese emperor because that's how they greet. He bent over to shake the hand of a Saudi because the guy was shorter. But Trump saluting the head of a dictator's military, that's great because respect! And then he goes on the minimize the dictator's murderous record.
