The corporations have done a masterful con job with this one. Cheap labor with no rights or benefits and if you complain about it....you're racist!
Correct. That’s the whole game. It’s all about undermining the bargaining power of labor (white collar and blue collar).
Every other first world country has strict immigration laws. Then again, every other first world country has some kind of universal healthcare.
We can have a generous welfare state or we can have open borders, we can’t have both. The people who support universal healthcare should be the most vocal about the need to restrict immigration.
You can find that same phenomenon in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Those are conservative states and a somewhat high percentage of the population is on welfare and there are alot of kids being born to single mothers.
Yeah but at least most of them have a legal right to be in the country .. if we have so much of that already why import more right ?
Actually, those "illegals" are paying into your Social Security fund to help ensure that you're going to get a check when you're eligible (which they can't collect). They pay sales and local taxes that help keep your streets paved.
Oh yes. The "Illegal labor saves our social security fund" canard. A timeless classic. Right along with, "Americans are getting older and we need millions of unskilled laborers to fill the void....despite millions of jobs poised to be made redundant and obsolete due to automation in the coming decades."
Look, all we have to do is move around the money we spend to educate, feed and basically raise the multiple children illegals tend to have (and which costs WAY, WAY more than the average low-skilled, low-paid illegal is EVER going to pay into social security), and we can boost social security. It's like 10k per child, PER YEAR to educate just one kid in a public school. You think Mr. Illegal working $10.00/hour is contributing even half that much each year to the SSI fund? Don't forget then the free lunch (and DINNER AND BREAKFAST)... and foodstamps, and WIC, and housing asssitance, and pre-school......
People seem to forget that immigrants and illegals ALSO get old and end up needing care. They don't just die and go away. If they have no insurance in their old age they end up at the ER rooms where hospitals end up eating billions in service fees.
Subtract out the costs of border enforcement, as well as the huge percentages of illegals being warehoused in prisons, and that's even more savings.
Imagine how wealthy and amazing we'd be if we had another Canada on our southern border instead of the utter and complete mess of Mexico and Central America.
The truth? We will be just fine without illegals. The ones who won't be fine are those who depend on illegal labor for their businesses.
But, it's the 21st century and automation is coming at us full steam ahead. We keep importing poverty at the rate we are, we are going to turn INTO the countries these folks are fleeing from.Every other first world country in the world manages to do business, have social welfare programs, etc. WITHOUT relying on "illegal labor"... Japan, the Scandinavian countries, etc.... all poised to do more with less.
Farmers across the US are already investing heavily in automation as they see the writing on the wall.

We let millions of illegals come into the country for cheap labor, no getting around that.
That helps people that don't compete with them for jobs like if you're an ER Nurse or an architect or FBI agent etc by providing them cheaper goods and services.
It helps the corporations keep their overhead down...which in turn helps the stockholders.
It SCREWS the least educated and impoverished like the homeless black couple in the article because the illegals can do anything they can and employers either don't have to hire them or can pay them less.
Yet if we clamp down on illegal immigration we're heartless racists....and if we don't we're creating wealth disparity and are heartless racists.

The states of the “Melting Pot†and the “New Sunbelt†will continue to attract young replacement workers either through domestic migration or immigration, but the “Heartland†is projected to lose more population than they grow naturally or through newcomers resettling there, which means fewer and fewer people of working age and more and more retirees with fewer tax dollars to support them.
On a state by state basis, both Blue and Red states are in that “Heartland†group that will struggle to find replacement workers and younger taxpayers.

Far from actually emphasizing the commonality of Americans, and using positive nationalism and partiotism as a means to unite disparate peoples (the way that was popular in the first half of the 20th century).... we are moving toward increasing balkanization.
The melting pot has been dumped out in favor of the leftist dream of a "tossed salad" of multi-culturalism where "being American" just means the random geographical borders you happen to live and, and the state-derived benefits you are entitled to for living here. Consumers, essentially. No national identity. Patriotism is racist. Assimilation is genocide. And racist.
All the sh-thole areas of my state (Massachusetts) are non-white, non-English speaking communities rife with illegitimacy, crime, murder, Illiteracy, drugs, etc.
