You forgot the part where they are separated from their mother.
Generally they accept the danger before they find out what being in danger really means in the unknown. I am a great believer in the strength of love in families. These people would not make a move if they thought they had a chance to help their children rise above the lacks of their home country. Young women may be fleeing certain rape and men may be trying to get away from gangs.
American has long promoted their society as the "American Dream" which today is at its lowest ebb.
Perhaps all promotion of the sort be discontinued.
