Glad to see the sane are not falling for this tripe. The rest of y’all...
Its crap reporting like this that is causing huge problems in this country. These idiot news outlets don't bother to look deeper into the stories they promulgate, they see a headline they like and it goes right onto their webpage.

And its sad that they even look at a story like this and think "oh good, this will serve a purpose" really sad. And harmful too as it minimizes true crime and victims in countries that need the exposure being stolen by the disingenuous placement of the US on that list.
Considering that, by the CDC's definition, this tally of "sexual violence" victims includes any woman who has ever engaged in sexual activity while inebriated, or has ever been "verbally sexually harassed" (hit on by a man she didn't fancy), that one in three estimate has to be low.
It does not say "any" woman who has engaged in sexual activity while inebriated, or "hit on by a man she doesn't fancy", but you already know this don't you?
Fake news? Oh well then here's another from 'The Bureau of Criminal Statistics' Be sure to click on all of the sub links under "Publications and Products"
What they all seem to agree upon is the general saturation of one in every five. The troubling aspect is the degree of reporting being in the neighbourhood of 30% leaving the vast majority of them going unreported in the U.S.

Quote:
Understanding Sexual Violence
Sexual violence is any sexual activity where consent is not freely given. This includes completed or attempted sex acts that are against the victim’s will or involve a victim who is unable to consent through use of force or alcohol/drug facilitation.
Inebriated women are considered technically unable to consent and therefore, when they have sex, are defined as victims of sexual violence.

Other forms of sexual violence are:
Non-physically pressured unwanted sex
Unwanted sexual contact (intentional sexual touching), or
Non-contact, unwanted sexual experiences (such as verbal sexual harassment)
And what is verbal sexual harassment if not being hit on by a person you don't want hitting on you? Any woman who walks by a construction site and hears, "Hey baby, nice rack!" is a victim of sexual violence by this definition. That's how you get to the holy moly one in three numbers.
