There are more than enough spaces in college for everyone who wants to get in regardless of their racial background.
Such policy targets at only certain prestigious public universities which many applicants scramble to get in, i.e. UC Berkeley, private institutions like Ivy League are probably not affected at all.
Make College Admissions Fair Again : Trump withdraws Obama-era guidelines on considering race in college admissions
Good to know that now your race won’t determine whether or not you get into a college .
——
The Trump administration on Tuesday withdrew Obama-era policy guidelines that encouraged the consideration of race in college admissions.
The guidelines encourage colleges to voluntarily promote diversity and "avoid racial isolation" in their admissions practices. They were issued to provide guidance on the administration's interpretation of a number of Supreme Court cases related to affirmative action.
If the conservatives on this forum were truly interested in a meritocracy (they're not), then they would be opposed to the entire concept of inheritance (they're not), and would push for policies that level the playing field before college (they don't).
Inheritance has nothing to do with meritocracy.
There are many, many small businesses in my area that have thrived and survived, some of them even surviving the Great Depression, because the children and grandchildren were instrumental to that end.
Why shouldn't those children and grandchildren be rewarded for their efforts via inheritance?
What would you have done, simply close the business or place it in receivership?
Such policies would be economically detrimental to the US.
And many children have quit their jobs or abandoned their lives to care for aging parents. Don't they deserve some compensation?

It's actually a revolving door on Washington DC. The children of Ivy League graduates in government get a legacy admission to an Ivy League school, then come back and work for the government, and their children get a legacy admission to an Ivy League school and come back and work for the government.
It's very nepotistic.
Ivy League grads and their government policies have effectively screwed the US so badly over the last 80 years, and if it were up to me, anyone with an Ivy League degree would be barred from serving in government.
It's time for the Big 10, PAC 10 and SEC to start running the country,

Some states outlaw it already, including California.
Eight states currently ban race-based affirmative action at all public universities. California, Washington, Michigan, Nebraska, Arizona, and Oklahoma all passed bans through voter referenda. In Florida, Governor Jeb Bush issued an executive order creating the ban. And in New Hampshire, the legislature passed a bill banning the consideration of race.
And the University of Georgia voluntarily dropped consideration of race

California already has a law banning race as part of college admissions for public universities. So UC Berkley doesn't consider race in admissions today.

Plus the University of GA (huge enrollment at this flagship school).
