A Texas mother said she didn’t think twice about shooting a would-be carjacker when the man jumped into her vehicle at a Dallas gas station while her two sons were in the backseat.
Michelle Booker-Hicks was at the Shell station along Interstate 35 around 10 p.m. Wednesday when Ricky Wright, 36, attempted to steal her vehicle while she was paying her gas bill, police said. Booker-Hicks told FOX4 Dallas her two sons, ages 2 and 4, were sitting in the backseat at the time.
“I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment,” Booker-Hicks recalled to the news station.
If she left the doors open or the keys in the ignition then she can be blamed for that. But she did the right thing in shooting him.
A cop could have emptied his pistol into him and the DA never would have blinked. If she had fired more than once she'd be under serious scrutiny. That's a double standard that has to change.

She did not need to empty pistol she did the right thing by shooting him in the face. My motto is if you are going to shoot someone shoot them in the face.
Mom 's is still grossly negligent to leave her keys, unsecured gun, and 2 and 4 year old children, in an unlocked car at 10pm, in Dallas, while she went into a gas/convenience store.
I'm confused. She's in the back seat, but leans over the armrest to get the gun from her glove compartment? Maybe she was rattled when explaining what happened because I can't wrap my head around how this could happen.
But good for her. Chicago could use more folks like this with the carjackings we've been experiencing.
