It is funny how the weak minded just want to cave, and give in to foreign countries at the first sign of push back. What do you think they are going to do at first? Whine, complain, threaten, etc. Eventually, they will realize they need the U.S. more than we need them, and will contribute their fair share to NATO, and come to a reasonable trade arrangement. It will happen, it just takes negotiating, and time for them to see reality.

It has been repeated several times here that every member has until 2024 to get there.

It means that Canada (Trudeau) doesn't believe in NATO when they have to pay their fair share.

They want the American taxpayer to cover their portion.

They got away with it under Obama.

Shameful that such a commander in chief cares so little for the defense of his people.

I see why the leftists are losing their mind now that Trump calls out nu-male Trudeau over it. It's also another losing proposition for them come election time.

What responsibilities have been shirked? There is a target guideline for spending in 2024. It is now 2018. It is silly of Trump to accuse anyone of shirking a responsibility to meet a guideline that is not due for another 6 years.

Is that really difficult to understand? So many comments seem to stem from an unfounded emotional outburst rather than an understanding of facts.

Good job Canada and Europe... God bless!

Reason why America has trillions in debt is due to overspending on military and wars.
How about America stop being the world police perhaps much less spending was needed!

Canada is America's largest national park.

Why are they not paying it now? Why were they not paying it yesterday? Last year?

Since they have not been paying it, what makes anyone think they are going to pay it? All they will do is delay or outright change their commitment.

Wasn't the original agreement for the year 2024? Last year Trump made the silly claim that the other countries owed the US the difference between the 2% and what they did spend

All a country needs to do is triple their salaries and spend more on entertainment for the troops to reach the 2% level without making the World one bit safer. It's the spending on national defence budgets not at NATO and the right does not seem to understand that it is a voluntary commitment made by democratically sovereign nations. No one owes the US money. Trump now wants to move it up to 4% which would mean a large increase in even American spending and wasting lots of money that could go for services to the population.
