French clergy sexually abused more than 200,000 children over the past 70 years, a major investigation released on Tuesday found, and its authors said the Catholic Church had turned a blind eye to the 'scourge' for too long.
The church had shown "deep, total and even cruel indifference for years," protecting itself rather than the victims of what was systemic abuse, said Jean-Marc Sauve, head of the commission that compiled the report.
Most of the victims were boys, he said, many of them aged between 10 and 13.

A wide-ranging study by research and polling groups estimated there had been around 216,000 victims, and the number could rise to 330,000 when including abuse by lay members.
Sauve said the scale was unprecedented. There have been around 2,900-3,200 suspected paedophiles in the French church over the last 70 years, he added.

In my opinion the Church has become so corrupt, and there are so many instances of abuse and cover-up, that it makes no sense to continue pretending that the priesthood is anything more than a pedophilia cult at this point. How many more cases do we need to hear about before we stop allowing these monsters into our communities and supporting them through tax breaks and private donations.

Prove it. Are there over 200,000 young boys in France claiming their teachers raped them? Are there millions of people around the World claiming that their teachers sexually abused them? Did the schools cover it up and move teachers around in order to protect them? Did the schools spend money on lawyers and public relations firms to shield teachers from their crimes?
The answer is no. When a teacher commits sexual assault they are prosecuted and the schools don't protect them. When a Catholic Priest sexually assaults a child the leadership protects them every time.

Read what I posted. If you can find factual data that proves me wrong, do so. I didn't say a damn thing about how the church handled it. The FACT is that the rate of pedophilia offenses by Catholic priests is lower than that of public school teachers. When you respond, address that statement - don't make up a bunch of other stuff that you think I said. Focus. Also, do your own damn research.
