I think we should start taxing synagogues, mosques, temples, etc. because that will bring in billions of dollars. What do you think? They don’t provide any aid to non-believers of that particular faith anyway in general so no excuse to make them tax exempt.
try again my friend, the churches DO provide services to non believers. and tehy do it not just in the US but around the world. for instance the order that mother teresa ran for many years catered to ALL the poor regardless of religious persuasion. she didnt care if you were catholic, muslim, jewish, atheist, or what ever. she reached out to EVERYONE. she took care of the sick and the poor. and she was not the only one to do so.
church missionaries all do similar things. try doing a little research before spouting off.
as for taxing the religious entities, are you also going to ignore the rest of the non profit charities? or are you going to make them pay taxes as well? you know charitites like the red cross, the united way, among others.
something else to consider here, while the charities as a whole dont pay taxes, their paid employees DO pay taxes, like their payroll taxes, and federal and state income taxes. so tax money is still collected from these charities.
Tax exempt status should be removed across the board completely in the US as it is being abused. Let them submit for refunds, if they think their due one, like the rest of people do that don't have the status.
but you see, even jewish temples provide services to non believers. in fact jewish temples have been known to help shelter the homeless during the winter when temps are going below a certain point. muslim churches might not do it though, but others do.

So do Muslim groups, or "churches," as you call them.

Muslims run food pantries, both on their own and in conjunction with ecumenical organizations.
I've served lunch on the patio of Trinity Wall Street in NYC along with Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and other Christians. There's no religious requirement for either helping to serve or to receive services.
One of our local churches has a thrift store and a coffee shop. That money is tax free because it is counted as church income. In the thrift store, they list all income as "donation". The church started them to fund a homeless shelter, but they closed the shelter after 3 months and kept the businesses open. They provide no help or money to charities.
No church has to pay taxes on donations.

Does the etc include churches? Why didn’t you mention them too?
Didn't St. Augustine say something about preventing an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn?
As an FYI and an example, the Sikhs here in Los Angeles do an absolutely kick-ass job among the homeless. There's a reason they're so respected.
I recall a few Muslim mosques providing shelter to people during Hurricane Harvey, and they were of all faiths. It’s reasonable to assume they do other good works for the community, though I don’t keep up with that type of stuff. It’s the one example I know because it made the news.

Several mosques provided shelter to Harvey victims in Houston last year.
