Am I the only one who feels funerals should not be televised live? I don’t like to go to funerals for close friends and family so why would I want to watch a live telecast of a funeral for someone I have no personal connection to? I agree that because of the celebrity or political status of certain individuals those people’s funerals are news worthy material and filming the funeral is warranted. I just don’t feel right about live telecast of funerals.

What bothers me most about this are the speakers who have used this as an opportunity for personal grandstanding to make political statements. Funerals are for the surviving friends and family to honor and remember those who’ve passed away and give them a chance to comfort one another. It should not be a time for individuals to get on their soap box and make social or political statements.

1) You can change the channel or turn off the TV.

2) McCain invited speakers who he knew and expected would make political statements.

I have changed the channel. Still don’t feel funerals should be televised live.

I wasn’t just talking about McCain’s funeral. There were some speakers at Aretha Franklin’s funeral who also went political.

Are you watching with rabbit ears on an old black and white TV? There are hundreds of channels to turn to. Give it a try. Maybe if you went to more funerals you'd understand that mixed with the mourning lots of inspirational stories told as it was with the Senator's. McCain was political. Oh course, his funeral is going to be by in large political. He planned it down to the last detail.

Good God. The man is dead. Many funerals are televised. Get over it.

Oh God, they can't pre-empt football! That's our real religion and the only time we can display our man-crushes safely.

While (according to news reports) he did plan all of this so far only his daughter inappropriately decided to carry on daddy's feud.
Another interesting conversation could/should be had about someone who plans this BIG sendoff show for himself.

What does that really say about him if anything?

Yes. The man is dead. Funeral in Arizona. Funeral is DC on Friday. Funeral in DC on Sunday. They are parading him around more than the Russians did with Lenin.

Yes, I heard Aretha Franklin's funeral just became a platform for politics. It apparently lasted 6 hours.
