To become addicted to nicotine is a choice while a person with asthma did not choose to have asthma.
Well - the post you quoted was about BBQ - not nicotine. Do you want BBQ banned?
If you suffer from a form of phobia we in Holland can apply to our government to help find a job which causes no (or at least less) stress.
Maybe this is also so in America?

Who doesn't benefit from clean air?
Oh right, smokers.
I have a sister who has Rottweilers. They shed. I'm allergic to them. But dogs are better than people, so should I DENY myself the opportunity to enjoy them, or should I take precautions before I go over there? Take medication so that I CAN enjoy them?
I think most asthma sufferers, if not on a preventive like Advair or Symbicort, carry a rescue inhaler on them, in case the air quality is too poor for them to handle.

Very good point. They never know when they will run into issues that will adversly impact them
I would suggest that, in their case, walking a city street might be more harmful than any resturant with a smoker. Los Angeles for instance -
Yep - a hood that is a straight shot to the outside - lots of smoke comin' out
A ventilation fan sucking smoke outside, if it worked would be good enough. It's all moot anyway because bans are going to happen, no one wants to try a compromise. What about tax breaks for businesses that voluntarily install ventilation or filtration? Wouldn't that be fair? I just don't want to see anymore sick waitresses, I'm not trying to control the behaviour of others.

Depends, I assume that when you have a good circulation placed directly above the BBQ this problem would be solved?

I'm allergic to dogs, cats and other stuff.
I just accept my limitations, so I simply avoid them because I don't want to take medication if I don't have to.

See, there is the problem. You are putting one group of people over another group. That is wrong. All these people who yell about "Thier" rights as non smokers basically are saying that one group of people should have more rights than another. And to all the ladies whining about going to a bar to booze it up and who are glad they smell like a brewery rather than like smoke is twisted logic. Explain that to me....
Acupunk - you will develop a little thicker skin after a while. I would have to say that MOST of the regulars here at POC are really straight shooting folks...they live off debate. Like what Nomander posted, no one will get lambasted for admitting that your position is subjective. Opinions are driven by one's personal experiences and beliefs. I think his point is when some claim something as fact and cannot provide substantiation. Personally, my pet peeves are those who use the labels flagrantly..."liberals", "socialist", "quasi-whatever". Worse you could do in POC is throw a tantrum or cry boo-hoo, or any of that.
I just read this, I don't get what this is about. I said I have liberal views because I clearly do when it comes to property rights. I got upset and I stated how I felt about it and said something specifically to someone else and would not be back on this thread if the issue hadn't been brought up again by another poster who I respect. It sounds like you have a problem with me but then you added a smile.
