OPEC was trying to stifle US production, but we didn't really care because the price decreases were hitting Russia far worse. Russia was invading Crimea and messing with the Ukraine about that time. That part is true.

"From its low point in 2008, U.S. oil production has grown each year to reach 9.4 million bpd in 2015 -- a gain of 88% during Obama's presidency. This is in fact the largest domestic oil production increase during any presidency in U.S. history."

Obama presided over the largest domestic oil production increase of any president in American history (a oil production increase of 88%.)

Obama increased oil production from 5,349 to 8,831.
Trump increased oil production from 8,831 to 9,352.

Who is the biggest oil producing president, Obama or Trump?

...digging a little deeper (so to speak)

The Irony Of President Obama's Oil Legacy: Forbes Jan 15, 2016, Robert Rapier Contributor Energy

Quote:
But I think the other reason President Obama doesn't spend more time beating the drum on this crude oil production surge is that it is readily apparent that it happened despite his administration, and not because of it. President Obama coincidentally happened to enter office just as the shale oil boom in the U.S. was getting started.

In fact, the vast majority of the increase in U.S. oil production occurred on private land. On land that the U.S. government controls, it was a different story. The EIA reported in 2015 that while U.S. oil and gas production overall were surging, production of natural gas on federal lands was declining. Oil production is at about the same level as it was during his first year in office:

Source: Sales of Fossil Fuels Produced from Federal and Indian Lands, FY 2003 through FY 2014

President Obama's oil production legacy shares a similarity to that of President Jimmy Carter. In 1973 President Nixon pushed through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act, which cleared away legal challenges seeking to stop construction of the pipeline. But the pipeline didn’t start operating until 1977, during President Carter’s first year in office. As a result, after a sharp decline under Presidents Nixon and Ford, oil production rose during Carter’s term. But the production increase during Carter’s first two years in office was a result of decisions made during the Nixon administration.

Thus, President Obama's legacy will certainly be that he presided over a dramatic expansion of U.S. oil and gas production. But if you dig a little bit below the surface, you find that there's a lot more to the story than that.

Thank the PRIVATE SECTOR for taking the risk to explore, drill, and extract oil, and natural gas, then refine it for use. Yes, the Trump policies have helped, but the private sector does it IN SPITE of government most of the time.

The Trump energy policies are helping us maximize oil, and gas production which keeps worldwide prices lower, and HURTS RUSSIA, and the middle east countries that want us dead. So yeah, more proof Trump is no friend of Russia, nor Putin.

Once again Obama's failure is America's success.

I would suggest neither at this point, this is primarily market driven. My question is can you or anyone else point to a single policy under Obama's administration that benefited the fossil fuel industry? About the only thing I can think of policies geared toward hindering coal that benefited the natural gas industry.

The plain facts are that the Obama's administration was not pro fossil fuels and the Trump administration is. Obama era policies if anything hindered growth except perhaps the natural gas industry but that was at the expense of another industry.

Price of the commodity determines growth of out put. Supply and demand determines price.

Except for oil. It is being used as a political tool. One allowing markets to hedge and use margin.

Perhaps, but that happened DESPITE Obama's all out effort to kill oil. New pipelines? No. Offshore drilling? No. Fracking? Hell no. That the US ever surpass Saudi Arabia in oil produciton was a pipe dream not many years ago. And don't doubt for a second that this is bad news for your looney base.

Sure about that? Who's to say that dinosaurs are not making great quality oil as we speak?
