The original framers of the government did their best to prevent eventual tyranny. Regardless, it has slowly been working its way into our laws and society as it always does, but we haven't fallen into balls-to-the-wall authoritarianism yet. Give it a few years.
Let me clarify your bullet points:
Healthcare -- aka, having others pay for my medical needs.
Holiday pay -- aka, getting paid for sitting on my ass.
Reproductive rights -- aka, screwing like rabbits and not having to face the consequences.
Political stagnation -- aka, roadblocks along the road to tyranny.
rampant gun violence -- aka, rather than acknowledging the artist, we wish to celebrate the paints.
anti-science, anti-intellectualism -- aka, liberalism (may as well add anti-liberty in there as well).
The rest of the world has quietly dealt with issues decades ago that Americans are still struggling with:
Healthcare
Holiday pay
Reproductive rights
Political stagnation
rampant gun violence
anti-science, anti-intellectualism
What gives?
The republican party that allowed itself to be hijacked and is now a crime syndicate that only exists to funnel money to the top using dumbed-down tools to vote against their own best interests.
The United States of America is the only truly free country on earth. Paramount to liberty is freedom of speech. We are the only country in the world that guarantees in our founding documents that the freedom to petition the government and speak against it shall not be infringed.
You can talk about the number of people incarcerated, take issue with this law or that law, and claim that some other country has more freedom than we do. And you may have some valid points which should be addressed.
But no other country protects speech the way we do. None. And if you're not free to speak your mind, you're not free. All other freedoms stem from that, because it ensures that you have a voice in the process. In every other country, you risk being silenced. We can change the laws we don't like, but only if we can have that discussion to begin with.
anti-science, anti-intellectualism -- aka, liberalism (may as well add anti-liberty in there as well).
Scientists are actually a very conservative lot. They are employed in a field of study that is self-correcting and brutally thorough in it's method, the scientific method, to be exact.
The bleeding edge of science is where the most "liberal" thought occurs, and this is where there is the most argument and disagreement.
