It is a JOKE! Grow some thicker skin. That ended 150 years ago.
Just because you think something is insensitive doesn't mean it's racist.
You have no right to never be offended by what others say.
The fact all the right wingers in this thread are willing to die on this hill for this particular argument speaks volumes about why racism is still very much alive and well in the United States.
Stuff like that isn't funny at all. It is really disturbing. I am the descendant of slaves. If I ever saw that sign in a restaurant, I would walk out, never come back, and tell other people not to eat there. However, there would be some people who say "it's just a joke" or "don't take it so serious". My thing is that maybe if that person fears losing money, said person will think twice.
I also know there are some persons who know that this is quite insensitive and crass. Some will excuse it by saying "the more offensive it is, the funnier it is", or "humor is suppose to be offensive".
By the way, what was going through your mind when you were part of that "auction" as a kid?
Poor baby.
Guess what? Many people's ancestors were slaves, not just African Blacks brought to America. Lighten up. or be forever angry, and unhappy. AND A VICTIM!

Ignoring history while you pat yourself on the back for how great you are will not win people over to your ideology.

Were your ancestors slaves, different from the African American slaves brought to the North American Continent around the 1700-1800's?

I'm honestly curious, not trying to be snarky.
Yes, they were conquered by the Romans, and mostly enslaved. Africans also enslaved each other in tribal warfare, as did the American Indians. So Blacks from Africa don't have a monopoly on being slaves, and they often were the ones enslaving others.
