These stats are tossed around by low information people who didn't study helpful concepts like "per capita" or "proportionality."

In terms of raw numbers, "white men" (or rather, right wing terrorism, which tends to be white men) have committed about 75% of designated terrorist acts since 9/11.

Islamic terrorists have committed the other 25%.

Sounds like white men are the problem, eh? Yeah, well... except that Muslims are like, 2% of the population... and "white men" are 35%-ish. So one is outsized by a factor of TEN, and another by just 2. So if you're going to concern yourself with your chances of any one random white man committing terrorist acts vs. any one random Muslim.... well... you should be smart enough to see who to take your chances with. And if you don't understand? Then kindly stay out of any discussion that deals with "statistics" until you learn what proportionality means. Don Lemon just made himself look a goddamned fool.


This is the same fallacy that leads people who are otherwise intelligent to believe that white men are disproportionately mass shooters (they aren't), and serial killers (nope). I think the one non-white collar crime "white men" are actually disproportionately represented in is possession of computer child porn. When it comes to the actual raping and pedophilia, however, they aren't over-represented.
