The only thing “th[at] guy gets” is how to deflect and divert from the thread topic.

Isolationism is and always will be a failed concept.
Hey we need to even out some of these terrible trade deals.

Isolationist wtf are you on?

It is on topic- the topic is a trade war.

The reason for the trade war was illegal trade activities by the Chinese (including dumping products on the US market below cost to kill competition) and its impact on the US economy.

The tariffs and actions by the Chinese against soybeans and pork (most of the pork industry in the US is owned by Chinese interests) due to actions by the US against a variety of Chinese imports.

This trade war had to be fought sometime- better now when we are in a position of relative strength. To allow the Chinese to continue what they were doing unchecked would eliminate key raw materials processing industries and manufacturing in the US.

Keep in mind this mess came about from Bill Clinton's China trade policy and NAFTA. Trump is simply trying to mitigate the damage done to the economy and the American middle class by the Clintons.

I'm a little surprised that no Trump supported decided to bump this thread with this information, to show that President Trump has the Chinese right where he wants them.

However, yesterday Mr. Trump tweeted:

"Just had a long and very good call with President Xi of China. Deal is moving along very well. If made, it will be very comprehensive, covering all subjects, areas and points of dispute. Big progress being made!"

I believe it is a possibility that the United States, due to Mr. Trump's vast negotiation skills, will soon agree to import soy beans from China.
If Trump said all's good, for sure the opposite is true. This trade war won't be settled anytime soon. Expect the stock market to continue to tank in 2019.

Further, the subsidies to the farmers are a FRACTION of their losses. Whatever they are being paid today, is partial reimbursement for earlier losses and in no way comes close to making them whole for their cumulative losses to date - and all the market and future business permanently lost when and if this issue is settled.

Only the big guys are going to survive this. Most say they can take a year of this, but 18 months - and it's all over. So far, nine months have elapsed.

After Trump pulled out the TPP the 11 countries made a new trade deal without America. "That means that Welch's grape juice, Tyson's pork and California almonds will remain subject to tariffs in Japan, for example, while competitors' products from countries participating in the new Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership will eventually be duty-free" (new international trade deals without America are putting tariffs on American products.)

And because of Trumps trade wars countries like the European Union and Japan also made new trade deals, and these trade deals will cause tariffs on American products sold in the EU and Japan.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-t...-idUSKCN1GK0JM

And because of Trumps trade wars the EU and China have formed a new group within the WTO to rewrite global trade rules (with the objective of combating Trumps trade wars, this will also cause more countries like the EU and China to further push America out of global trade networks.)

https://www.businessinsider.com/chin...ade-war-2018-6

The TPP trade deal alone involves 500 million global customers (and this trade deal does not include the EU and China.)
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-t...-idUSKCN1GK0JM

The EU has a population of 513 million people.
China has a population of 1.3 billion people.

Donald Trumps trade policies have the potential to cause 2.3 billion global consumers to pay tariffs on American goods, because of trade deals other countries made without America.
This trade war is going to be so expensive for US long-term, ramifications of which will be permanently detrimental.

Look it up the definition yourself.

Isolationism is an outright failure of an economic concept.

There are numerous other threads on the material tariffs, keep your deflections out of this one.

And lol, bonus points for blaming this on the Clintons. Lame.

Please, it was Republicans, not Democrats, in Congress who overwhelmingly supported NAFTA. Ronald Reagan envisioned a free trade zone extending to the tip of Tierra Del Fuego.

George 41 signed NAFTA in December 1992

Hey, we're down a couple trillion in the stock market.....and Trump gave more money to those Farmers than it would take for his "Steel Slat" plans...etc. etc.

What else is new? There is a drunk landlubber at the helm of the ship. It's not going to get any better unless he can be stopped.

Clintons are good at time travel. They lost WWII and probably won the war of Northern Agression also. It had to be the Clintons!

Default US Loses $131 Billion in Growth plus $2 billion income

Quote:
If the U.S. had stayed in TPP, the country’s real income would have increased by $131 billion annually, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Now, “the United States not only forgoes these gains but also loses an additional $2 billion in income because US firms will be disadvantaged in [CPTPP] markets,” the think tank said in a February report.

I’ve never seen such nervousness in the U.S. Business community as I see now,”.......there is a sense that “the world is moving forward without us,” he said.
