Eh, I'll pass.

I might as well wish for us to have a North Korea type government exclusively of scholars and scientists. Think Workers Party of Korea with brains. (Yes, I am being sarcastic!).

I dont mind brief periods of time with one party rule.....but none would be better. And long periods of it would destroy our country I believe.

I think I'm going to have to agree with this.

Frankly, I've never understood partisan politics. Maybe someone could use this thread to enlighten me.

Isn't the goal of our system for the best party to prevail?

If not, and a constant battle between parties is an ongoing part of the checks and balances of our system, then I'm going to have to agree with this poster. The battle has morphed into something our country's founders never intended or envisioned, and it's causing a rift between Americans of unprecedented proportions. It has divided us like never before, to the point of becoming dangerous.

I'm old enough to remember a time when the United States of America really was United, so that once the election was over people went back to being friends, neighbors, and Americans, not democrats and republicans. I doubt we could ever get back to that point without a revolution.

Texas and especially Mississippi have been 1 party states for decades. So how is a one-party state in CA any worse (or better, take your pick) than a one party state in TX and MS?

The answer to your question is partisan, a liberal is not going to like Texas being one party if Republicans rule, and conservative will not like California being one party rule if it is liberal.

The question to my thread though, is a California liberal happy opposition is shut out and is the Texas Republican happy if liberals get shut out of Texas. Only you the person can answer that depending which way you lean. We no doubt have posters here that think Republicans are evil and racist , we have posters that think that Democrat liberals are communist evil, so...better that your side never has to deal with them again right?

The question goes both ways
Well - obviously there were Republicans holding seats in California. Now - they are not.

You figure it out.

No.

A multi-party system would be better. No one party could ever represent everyone well.

For instance in California Republicans are basically shut down, shut out for the seeable future, liberals in California should be rejoicing.

There are more unaffiliated Independents than Republicans or Democrats. Some day, there will likely be an Independent in the White House.

No one is shut out.

They are free to run candidates. If their message does not resonate with the local community, what are we to do about it?
