To be fair, the whole methodology is flawed. They used a lot of terms, but didn't break down each term, or the weight scale they used for them.
So things like "erectile dysfunction", "hair loss", and "viagra" obviously affect older men more than younger men. So "older" states would likely score higher than younger states(like Colorado). And does wanting to use steroids mean you are insecure about your manhood? I kind of reject the idea that trying to "improve" yourself makes you insecure or fragile.
Moreover, they chose these terms partially by asking a bunch of geeks with the "Amazon Mechanical Turk" if they had ever looked up these terms. Which seems to be on the assumption that the Amazon team is full of whimpy beta males. And so if betas are looking these terms up, then everyone who looks them up must also be betas.
Seems stupid.
The whole alpha/beta thing is outright made up as well. Even the scientist who coined the term for wolves renounced his work when he was unable to reproduce it.
Just a term, again, that insecure males throw around as the economy has turned to reward brains over manual labor.
