The South could benefit from that example.
I think it was the Americans.

On April 22, 1945, a victorious U.S. Army destroyed one of the greatest symbols of Germany’s Nazi regime: a giant marble swastika that overlooked the Zeppelintribüne, Adolf Hitler’s most powerful pulpit, at the heart of the Nazi party rally grounds.

Either way, it should have been left up for the Germans to deal with. I love the idea of leaving these things up and adding footnotes later on...provided they are privatized of course.

Absurd example. American did not blow up "history" as you imply, as we were in the fight against the Nazi's at the time.

However rest assured this is an example of destroying history;

That specific example of the swastika being destroyed was not during a battle. Post-victory the U.S. Army decided to blow it up.

No_Recess is right, it was Americans - my bad. That was after the surrender, so not in combat either. But that is exactly the sort of histiry the current crop of Republicans are fighting so hard to keep intact - a glorification of those who fought for a bad cause.

The point being, Germany removed Nazi symbolism from a place of honor (or had it removed) and instead kept the camps as memorials. Or erected monuments to the victims. There are no statues to Rommel in any German town square. If you want to see Nazi symbolism, you go to a museum. If you want to commemorate the Nazi era in public, you erect a monument to the victims.

Moving a statue of Lee to a museum isn't erasing history, it's putting him where he deserves to be: Away from the place of honor and respect he undeservingly appropriated.

And if - like the OP - you are going to put it in Republican/Democrat terms, the current crop of Republicans aren't condemning Lee and the other confederacy symbolism in the public square - they're googly-eyed about "tradition" and "respect" and the entire pipe organ of Lost Cause dogwhistles.

Oh yeah, and the plantations are now used for destination weddings.

I disagree. Leave the symbols/statues where they are in their original exhibition. It serves two purposes:

1. To give full context without the chance of dissenters claiming manipulation

2. To be able to give additional information later on (Lee was a POS...in not so many words)

I did research and that stadium in Nuremberg still stands where they blew up that swastika. In that case I suppose removing the swastika would have been ok as long as inside an area of the stadium there was a picture of it with the backstory. If you're using it for decades after that with soccer matches/concerts you don't want that thing hanging over head.

But the statues/monuments with no connection to anything should stay there. It gives full impact.

Because they are Democrat, they are willing to overlook the crimes of the Democrat Party, by destroying any history of it. It is as simple as that. Conscious and guilt.

1.) The party of slavery
2.) The party of segregation
3.) The party of Jim Crow
4.) The party of the KKK
5.) The party of lynchings
6.) The party of ALL the honors of American history
7.) The party that is complicit with fascism
8.) The party that place Japanese Americans in interment
9.) The party that reignited the KKK in the 1920's
10.)The party of eugenics
11.)The party of abortion
12.)The party of sexualizing children

Apposed all the way by Republicans. FACT!

So, today you like the welfare state you like the collective power of the democrat party, you are in an awkward position of having to confess to ALL the horrors their party committed to get where they are today. Look what evils and horrors that have been committed to today's times, by the Democrat party against fellow Americans!

The Democrat Party has never apologized for ALL the horrors they committed upon America and it's people.
Never paid any restitution... Never took blame. That is an ugly position to be in!

So today, it is lie through your teeth and blame everyone else. America did it. The whiteman did it. The southerners did it. Republicans did it.
Everyone except the evil party, that actually did it. Democrat Control Freaks.

Change My Mind.
The democrats that fought to retain slavery and who founded the KKK (were today's republicans.)

"The American political parties, now called Democrats and Republicans, switched platform planks, ideologies, and members many times in American history."
Democrats and Republicans Switched Platforms - Fact or Myth?

"Sometime between the 1860s and 1936, the (Democratic) party of small government became the party of big government, and the (Republican) party of big government became rhetorically committed to curbing federal power."

Or look at it this way,

Democrats love South Americans and democrats even respect South American illegals (republicans want to build a wall to keep South Americans out of America.)

Democrats respect Muslims and Islam (republicans hate Islam and enact travel bans to keep Muslims out of America.)

Democrats support Black Lives Matter (republicans hate Black Lives Matter.)

Democrats support black Americans protesting during the anthem (republicans attack black Americans protesting during the anthem.)

Democrats support food stamps for unmarried black women with children (republicans attack single black women with children on food stamps.)

Democrats support free cell phones for low income black Americans (republicans oppose it.)

Democrats support reparations for slavery (republicans oppose it.)

Republicans also pass laws to stop black Americans from voting.

A party whose base is made up almost entirely of white people, and yet somehow, some way, right wing trolls they if they keep bringing up 100 years ago, black people will suddenly be tricked about what is going on now.

It's really pathetic.
