Can you imagine if, say, Chase or Bank of America was having a dispute with its vendors or shareholders or customers, and announced that they were simply closing the bank indefinitely?

If those elected officials have such contempt for the government or for the American people, they shouldn't be allowed to hold those positions in the first place. I'd like to see everyone voting for shutdowns to automatically lose half of that week's pay, and forfeit all pay thereafter during any shut-down. They're comfortable enough that it won't really pinch them, but at least it would be something.

Please edit the thread title so we can understand it.

Show a little restraint with that new thread trigger finger, please. You really clutter up the board with all this crap.

It's so dumb and seems like it's been happening more and more in the past few years.

If the GOP put forth a budget bill that included 5 billion for a border wall are you suggesting everyone that votes against it loses their pay? Like it or not this is how our Democracy works.

That said if you want to fix this problem they simply need to get locked in the capital building until they figure it out. Give them some water and bread, NO COTS!

Eek! Sorry, Chuck! I wish the system would indeed let us edit the title lines.

It was meant to be: WHY do we PERMIT these tantrums with shutdowns.

Apologies to all.
