Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have once again said they will not, under any circumstances, approve funding for a border wall or steel slat fence.

Should Trump just go ahead and declare the state of emergency?

Sure, go ahead Mr. Trump. It will get tied up in the courts afterwards.

Not getting your way is not a state of emergency. It's pretty common in politics. What an awful precedent this would create.

It is not a crisis. It is not an emergency. Well, in one sense it is - 2020 is rapidly approaching and Trump has not delivered to his faithful base. He failed with repealing Obamacare, coal mines are still closing, his tax break was huge for his rich friends and a pittance for his base. He has not made America great again, more like the laughing stock of the world because Trump is viewed universally as a clown. So, it is an emergency for Trump to look like he can at least get one "win".

I support building the wall and very strong border security. but, I don't support governance of any president by decree/ executive orders so voted no in this poll. writing laws and proposing government funding bills are (supposedly) the jobs of congress.

I'm very disappointed elected leaders in congress refuse to negotiate with the president. that is their job. they aren't doing their job.

Trump has cornered himself with his own ignorance. He has created a situation that he cannot win. State of emergency? Will be seen as desperate by most. Even his base knows its an act of desperation.

Wall can't be built quickly. There is no real emergency, otherwise it would be most important to use the military to guard and conduct surveillance for a real emergency.

Trump made up the emergency because he realized he's lost his chance at funding because the Republicans couldn't get out of their own way for 2 years long enough to approve it. Now he's finding out the emergency idea won't work either.

Years in courts to build a wall using emergency narratives, and some of that will involve international law since you can't just built a wall near a river and send floodwaters to the other side. A nice big fat ugly mess, all the creation of the dumbest and most dishonest president in history.

I'm disappointed that the Democrats have flip flopped on the border issue. It wasn't that long ago that the top Dems told us how important border security was. What happened? Do they really hate Trump that much that they refuse to work with him on something that is basic common sense?

If Trump is forced to, why not declare a state of emergency? Get the military down there and start building portions of the wall. We don't need a wall that runs the entire length of the border but building one that will funnel the "migrants" to proper checkpoints it will certainly reduce the number of people that are abused, hurt or even die in trying to make a dangerous trek through inhospitable lands dragging their kids with them.

Paul Ryan had no interest in tackling the wall so instead he kicked it down the road and now today we are dealing with it again. Pelosi and Schummer want to reopen the Gov. and then talk about a wall.. yeah right. Trump should not trust them.

What is so wrong about building a wall that will protect and help people on both sides of it?

Are there not "Clear and Present" dangers to American citizens living on the US side of the Border? Some 600 thousand snow birds in the Valley come to mind....What happens to those old folks when they get overrun by illegals????

BTW Here's my suggestion for a Border wall.....

Trump is probably stomping his feet, hitting his head against the wall, screaming and crying over not getting his ridiculous wall. Meanwhile, Mexico is laughing at him!
