Breaking: President Trump has told House Republicans he will not sign legislation that would avert a partial government shutdown, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Thursday.
Trump’s opposition upends a deal that would have kept the government open through Feb. 8 but would not give the president any new money for a border wall or other border security measures.
Trump’s opposition dramatically increases the chances of a government shutdown, which is set to start at the end of Friday unless Congress and Trump reach a deal to extend funding for the Department of Homeland Security and other major federal agencies
Other than people with affected federal jobs nobody cares about a partial shut down, they only care whose name they get to tack on to it.
Yeah they do. It affects millions of Americans in various ways. In Arizona we all will now be taxed to keep Grand Canyon National Park open for the tourists. It cost us nearly a million last time the GOP pulled this stunt. Trump admin said he would repay it, but they never did.
Good. You see this is where he finally unites people against him. If the Democrats want too, they can agree to override any veto for all legislation they pass as a body. Effectively if the president acts insane they can neuter him.
Bill passes 61-39 in the senate and gets vetoed? They override it 90-10, and its passed.
When Presidents have a majority in Congress they work with them to set an agenda and to develop legislation and budgets. Trump just sits it out until it's done then complains.
