President Trump sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday afternoon informing her an upcoming taxpayer funded, military escorted trip overseas has been postponed.
"Dear Madame Speaker. Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event it totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative," President Trump wrote.
I had been expecting the SOTU kerfuffle to blow over. But with this, I am now starting to think not.
Unless Speaker Pelosi is willing to compromise with President Trump, that is.
President Trump is getting tough with his Speaker, as it should be (in this situation). Pelosi needs to be in Washington right now, taking care of America's business and ending this silly shutdown. We've got a State of the Union to do in 12 days, with or without the Democrats.
Well, that move quickly went from what I thought was a fairly innocuous and amusing (if not childish) jab at Nancy Pelosi to something either pathetically ill-thought through or (worse) intentionally harmful to our country. What a bunch of amateurs/traitors in the White House.
Much better for politicians to take a taxpayer funded trip during the longest government shutdown.
