Aside from that, a pro-illegal alien potus can order the BP or ICE to stand down and not use or react to the technology. A pro-illegal Congress can just refuse to fund money to maintain or add further tech.

Needless to say a physical barrier prevents most from touching American soil, thus they are not subject to getting in and disappearing. It also makes it harder for drugs to flow across the boarder. Most importantly, a border wall is not subject to the liberal whims of a potus to order LE to stand down and not enforce our laws.

`

And your factual remarks are precisely why the pro-illegals in here and outside of this forum don't want the walls. They work but they don't really want the flow of illegals stopped or deterred so they make every excuse in the book not to build them and recommend alternate methods that won't work as you described above. They fool no one.

No one says a wall by itself will solve the entire problem.

That's a straw man argument.

But physical barriers are a vital part of a multi faceted approach.

Technology and policy driven solutions are all well and good but they have an inherent drawback that physical barriers don't have.......

They are only as effective as the current administration in power allows them to to be.

Once they are up, physical barriers are there and actively working until they fall down or are torn down.

Also....FYI:

Tunnel sensors are an actual thing.....you know, part of the technology based solutions the left keeps talking about.

Oh, will it be a wailing wall? If it is, will women be allowed to approach and pray to it, like the men do? Will we have to cover our heads out of respect for the Holy Wailer?

The Hardcore Maga folks say that's mainly what we need. Regardless of cost. Do you think that's the best way to spend $20+billion?

The good walls have never been tunneled under successfully anyway it's only been the inferior fencing that has been which Trump is trying to correct.

Physical barriers are the most important part. Everything else can be used in conjunction with the wall, but are of little value on their own without physical barriers.

I shouldn't be that way.....but the fact is that we can't trust future administrations to enforce border control in a meaningful way.

All the technology and policy based solutions in the world won't do a damn bit of good if future administrations decline to use them.

The other thing that makes a wall or significant physical barriers important and useful in immigration control is the symbolism.

It is, in itself, a statement of policy.

A giant "KEPP OUT" sign if you will.

And I think that's a fine use of 20 billion.

It is better than spending it on handouts to illegals.

As much as I appreciate technology...

The issue is not in knowing when folks are coming across but in actually preventing them from stepping foot on American soil.

That is the goal for illegal immigrants. They want to set foot here and then ask for asylum.

We can't say no, so instead we need to prevent them from being able to do this period.

That's a bit too Terminator 2 for my liking, but a couple of German MG-42's strategically placed might get the message across before too many bodies piled up.
